Position Title: Volunteer Manager

Summary:

Develop and implement volunteer programs designed to meet the needs of WNED during yearly fundraising, production and community outreach activities. This includes recruiting, training, scheduling and supervising volunteers in both the United States and Canada. The Volunteer Manager will work with various WNED departments to provide volunteer support for all TV & Radio pledge drives, various Major Donor events, select WNED program production previews, and all Fundraising Event projects (i.e., the WNED Buffalo Niagara International Guitar Festival, the JoAnn Falletta International Guitar Concerto Competition, KID FEST, the Antiques Home Show, etc.).

Duties and Responsibilities: Monthly % Time Spent
Develop a broader base of regular volunteers (groups & individuals) and maintain volunteer recruitment materials. Work with VP Development on a strategic plan for volunteer prospecting, recruitment and retention. Go out into the community and speak to civic groups about WNED volunteer activities, develop corporate contacts and work to market the WNED volunteer program. Maintain effective working relationships with bi-national community volunteer coordinators and groups. 40%

Recruit, schedule, train and oversee all volunteers working on TV and Radio pledge drives (USA & Canada), Major Donor events, program previews, and Fundraising Events (see partial list above). Schedule and facilitate volunteer meetings.

Coordinate quarterly newsletter to communicate with volunteers. Plan and execute volunteer recognition event.

Prepare and submit annual record of volunteer hours and other reports. Develop and monitor volunteer program budget.   5%
Supervise the donation and purchase of food for volunteers activities.   5%
Act as liaison for Friends of Western New York Public Broadcasting volunteer body.   2%

Qualifications and Education Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in human services, social sciences or related field, or related experience required.
  • Knowledge of public broadcasting preferred.
  • Supervisory, training and/or previous volunteer or event leadership experience required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule. Must be available on many weekends and evenings as required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and attitudes and have excellent negotiation skills.
  • Ability to network in the bi-national communities and function as a cooperative and effective team member.
  • Must have excellent leadership, public speaking, writing and organizational skills.
  • Computer literate and a strong ability to manage a volunteer database.
  • Ability to multi-task.
