Rick Steve: Europe 101 History & Art
For the Traveler soft cover book
 Pledge Level: $60

Details

Let's face it: museums can ruin a perfectly good vacation. But with our all-new, full-color edition of Europe 101, you can open Europe's treasure chest of great sights and watch them come alive.

After three decades of travel, Rick and Gene have distilled what you need to know (and no more!) in order to fully appreciate Europe's sights and culture. Written for smart people who slept through their history and art history classes, Europe 101 tells the story of Europe — from the pyramids to Picasso — illustrated with hundreds of color photos, featuring Europe's most important art, architecture, places and people.

Great Taste, Less Filling: Europe 101 doesn't just tell you what happened way back when, but more importantly, why it matters and where to see the most vivid examples. Written in a breezy, humorous style, Europe 101 will actually get you excited about art and history — not feeling like you just ate an encyclopedia.
What's Inside: You'll get a 420-page, dozen-chapter, fully-illustrated rundown of Europe's history, plus 40 pages on art and music appreciation, and a handy six-page timeline digest of the past 32 millennia.
For Travelers: Maps, timelines, and lists of must-see sights will help you plan your next itinerary...and the ones after that.
For Armchair Travelers: It's the perfect, fat-free introduction to Europe's rich art and history, and a handy reference book (what exactly was Baroque, anyway?).

It Works: The New York Times says, "Europe 101 is a diligent and thorough review of the subject that steers visitors in the right directions." The Boston Globe calls it a "humorous and historical perspective covering a mere 5,000 years of Western civilization." The Chicago Tribune calls this new edition "fun, informative, entertaining and practical."

The Longevity Code
Soft cover book
Pledge Level: $75

With combo: $150

Longevity is determined by more than a good diet, low cholesterol levels, exercise, good genes, and avoidance of smoking, says Zorba Paster, M.D., an instructor at the University of Wisconsin Medical School and family medicine practitioner. (His call-in radio program, Zorba Paster on Your Health, is heard on National Public Radio.) "Just as critical are how much you like your job, whether you have a good or rotten relationship with your parents and children, what sort of friendships you have, whether you're depressed or happy, angry or delighted, abusive or kindhearted." In The Longevity Code, Paster explains the five "spheres of wellness": physical, mental, kinship (family and social), spiritual, and material (meaningful work, sufficient money, safe and pleasing surroundings). If you have balance and good health in all five spheres, says Paster, you'll live longer.

Heart Healthy Recipes
Soft cover book
Pledge Level: $75
With combo: $150

For Dr. Zorba Paster, good health begins in the kitchen. In fact, when he’s not giving advice on his nationally-syndicated public radio talk show Zorba Paster on Your Health, co-hosted by Tom Clark, the kitchen is his favorite place to be. “You can’t talk about good health without talking about good food” says Dr. Paster, “because good health starts with a healthy diet.” So including a reduced-fat, Heart-Healthy Recipe of the Week on his radio series seemed like a natural from the start.

Dr. Paster and a few of his colleagues adapt conventional dishes, substituting low-fat alternatives for high-fat, cholesterol-rich ingredients in old standards. “It’s not that hard to turn a high-fat recipe into a healthy one,” he says. “All it takes is substituting a few low-fat ingredients, like yogurt for sour cream and low-fat cream cheese for butter. “

And he tries out the recipes at home. In fact, this father of four breaks stereotypes as the main cook for his family. “I’ve always loved to eat, so I cooked for my roommates when I was in college, and I guess I never stopped,” says Dr. Paster.

Margie fends off some of the would-be travelers with a graphic handout on the dangers of typhus and food poisoning and the seriousness of diarrhea, but ten applicants remain, though Carl is not sure he wants to go after all. At this, a heartbroken Margie gets the motley crew to the airport and aboard the plane, and then discovers one of the secret pleasures of travel-safely away from Lake Wobegon, the pilgrims' memories are quickened and they recall long-forgotten incidents. How to Eat Supper Cookbook
Pledge Level: $120

Product Description
Hardcover: 352 pages

Just when you thought the last thing the world needed was another book on weeknight cooking, along comes an entirely fresh take on the subject. As they do on their weekly show, host Lynne Rossetto Kasper and producer Sally Swift approach their topic with attitude and originality, making The Splendid Table’s How to Eat Supper one of the most engaging cookbooks of this or any other year.

As loyal listeners know, Lynne and Sally share an unrelenting curiosity about everything to do with food. Their show, The Splendid Table, looks at the role food plays in our lives—inspiring us, making us laugh, nourishing us, and opening us up to the world around us. Now they have compiled all the most trenchant tips, never-fail recipes, and everyday culinary know-how from the program in How to Eat Supper, a kitchen companion unlike any other.

This is no mere cookbook. Like the show, this book goes far beyond the recipe, introducing the people and stories that are shaping America’s changing sense of food. We don’t eat, shop, or cook as we used to. Our relationship with food has intensified, become more controversial, richer, more pleasurable, and sometimes more puzzling. How to Eat Supper gives voice to rarely heard perspectives on food—from the quirky to the political, from the grassroots to the scholarly, from the highbrow to the humble—and shows the essential role breaking bread together plays in our world.

How to Eat Supper takes you through a plethora of inviting recipes simple enough to ensure success even if you’ve never cooked before. And if you are experienced in the kitchen, you’ll find challenging new concepts and dishes to spark your imagination.
