He was an influential furniture maker and a rebel with a cause. Gustav Stickley rejected early 20th century mechanized industrialization and ached for America to embrace old-world craftsmanship. Through his business and magazine (both named “Craftsman”), he left an indelible mark on home design, decorative arts and the national landscape. Throughout his life, Stickley exemplified the ideals of his era, including art, gritty self-determination, utopian morality, and humankind’s struggle against an increasingly complex world. This premiere film biography of Stickley is set against the striking visual backdrop of his restored Parsippany, N.J. home, Craftsman Farms.
