“From Sorrow to Joy,” celebrating the heritage of the Polish Easter traditions, to air April 2 at 1 p.m.

With song and story, Classical 94.5 WNED shares the events of the Lenten season and explains its importance in the Polish community, the Catholic tradition and American culture. “From Sorrow to Joy” will air on Wednesday, April 2 at 1 p.m. with rebroadcasts on Tuesday, April 15 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, April 20 at 6 p.m.

From the blessing of candles on Candlemas and the first bite of pączki on the days before Ash Wednesday, to the glorious pealing of church bells on Easter morning to the time when the last pussy willow branch is brandished on Dyngus Day, this is the season when both the most somber and joyous events occur.

“There are lots of different ways a culture tells its stories – including through music, customs and food,” says Gabe DiMaio, Classical 94.5 program director. “What’s wonderful about this special program is that a listener can find commonality with the Polish and Polish-American culture but also learn what is special and unique about the Lenten and Easter celebrations.”

This program was funded by the Permanent Chair of Polish Culture at Canisius College.
