The Great British Baking Show

Season 2 begins Monday, Oct. 5 at 9 p.m. Follow the trials and tribulations of passionate amateur bakers whose goal is to be named the U.K.’s best. Each week, the bakers tackle a different skill, the difficulty of which increases as the competition unfolds. Mary Berry, a leading cookbook writer, and Paul Hollywood, a top artisan baker, serve as judges. After 10 weeks of competition, a new winner will be crowned.

Home Fires

The series begins Sunday, Oct. 4 at 8 p.m. The world is on the brink of the Second World War, and in the heart of a rural English village, a group of women come together to help keep their community strong in the difficult times ahead. Each of the women carries her own personal struggles and differing views, and while they may clash over the fate of their group, the Women’s Institute, they ultimately hold a shared mission that inspires their finest hour. The six-part series stars Samantha Bond and Francesca Annis in this moving wartime drama.
