The Amherst Symphony Orchestra plays a tribute to their co-founder, the late Ron Richards, oboist, during their first concert of their 70th season. Guest conductor, cellist Bryan Eckenrode, spoke with WNED about meeting Ron, the Hungarian oboe concerto to be played by Paul Schlossman, the music selections, and the pre-concert event with the Amherst High School Concert Chorale. The pre-concert event is at 6:15, the concert is at 7:00, at the Amherst Middle School, 55 Kings Highway in Amherst.
Joe Horowitz, through a grant from the NEH's Music Unwound Consortium (the same team that brought us “Dvorak in America” and “Charles Ives: An American Maverick”) has explored how Mexican music influenced “the dean of American music” - composer Aaron Copland - and how he in turn influenced a generation of Mexican composers. It’s the first of this year’s “Know the Score” concerts, at 7 p.m. this Friday night at Kleinhans Music Hall. Stefan Sanders conducts and the narrator will be WNED’s Peter Hall, with whom Joe Horowitz spoke.
Every weekend, WBFO presents great music from Buffalo and around the world with dynamic host and Buffalo Broadcasters Association Hall of Famer Pat Feldballe.
Tune in to The Blues on Saturdays and Sundays from 7 p.m. to midnight.
There is perhaps no issue more important to the future of Buffalo and Western New York than education.
WNED|WBFO’s Focus on Education initiative is a reporting and outreach project that examines the many challenges facing schools today. From the poor graduation rate in Buffalo to the controversy over Common Core Learning Standards, our comprehensive coverage informs and engages the community as it looks for solutions for students.
WBFO’s newsroom has produced hundreds of stories featuring a cross-section of topics and diversity in education in the Western New York community. Recognized by community stakeholders, WBFO’s Focus on Education has been a participant in educational panels and events to inform the public about what students need to graduate.
We also examine the many efforts underway to improve education in Buffalo and Western New York, including programs such as Promise Neighborhood and Say Yes to Education.
This exciting initiative is funded by a grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and is part of American Graduate – Let’s Make It Happen! – a public media initiative to address the dropout crisis.
WBFO-FM 88.7 is strengthening its commitment to news with the addition of two new weekly series. Beginning October 5, 2015, the Monday through Friday lineup will feature "The Takeaway" at 2 p.m. and "The World" at 3 p.m.
"The Takeaway" is hosted by well-known public radio host John Hockenberry. Its one-hour format features conversations with newsmakers and diverse voices, and relies on contributions from listeners across the country to deliver different perspectives and analysis about daily events. "The Takeaway" also incorporates news leaders from the series' producing partners, The New York Times and WGBH/Boston.

Hosted by Marco Werman and co-produced by WGBH/Boston, PRI and the BBC World Service, the series features the day's most interesting global stories and reminds us just how small our planet really is.
WBFO is further enhancing its schedule with changes to the existing lineup. "Science Friday," "This American Life," "Zorba Paster on Your Health," "Day 6" and the ever-popular "Living on Earth" will all air in stronger timeslots in the weekly schedule. By time, the changes are as follows:
