Donald K. Boswell, WNED President and CEO, announced the appointment of Gabe DiMaio as Program Director of Classical 94.5/WNED-FM beginning March 20. He assumes lead responsibility for station operations, program planning and staff supervision, succeeding the recently retired Peter Goldsmith.
The Long Island native’s diverse broadcasting career has encompassed on-air announcing; advertising/promotion; and technical direction with stations in Buffalo; the New York City area and El Paso, Texas.
DiMaio serves on the board of the Public Radio Program Directors national association and is an adjunct faculty member at his alma maters, Buffalo State College and the University at Buffalo.
Most recently Assistant Program Director with WBFO, public radio from UB, DiMaio was also an on-air presence as well as producer of UBeat and UB Edition, which highlighted the university’s activities and research accomplishments.
He’s been a longtime listener and fan of local public broadcasting, including both WNED radio stations, DiMaio says. “Classical 94.5 does a wonderful job of connecting the dots and putting classical music in context for listeners,” he notes. “That’s the advantage of listening to classical music on the radio over listening to CDs.”
“We’re pleased to have someone with Gabe’s extensive experience on board,” says Dick Daly, WNED Senior Vice President of Broadcasting. “His familiarity with this area and the public radio industry will help us move Classical 94.5/WNED into the future with confidence.”
In addition to a broadcasting degree from Buffalo State, DiMaio holds a law degree from UB, with a concentration in Affordable Housing and Community Economic Development.
He served twice in the military, in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he participated in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, and in the U.S. Army.
