Buffalo, NY – WNED Buffalo/Toronto will present THE ELECTRIC COMPANY Circuit Tour as part of KIDS ZONE at the 2009 National Buffalo Wing Festival. Shock (aka Chris Sullivan), who stars in the popular PBS children’s series, THE ELECTRIC COMPANY, will perform during a 90-minute live interactive experience on Sunday, September 6 at Coca-Cola Field in downtown Buffalo. The event (free with admission to the festival*) begins at noon on the Main Stage; registration begins at 11 am.
“This fun-filled performance will reinforce the exciting style of the television series as well as its major objectives: making learning fun for children and turning them on to the power of reading,” said John Craig, Ph.D., WNED’s Director of Education and Outreach. “Through music, rhythm, comedy and multi-media, both the series and this event engage children as they build literacy skills.”
The experience features a 25-minute stage show; pre- and post-show hands-on activities, including games and demonstrations; and free giveaways.
Based on the hip 1970s PBS series, The Electric Company has been revamped for today’s 6- to 9-year-olds. In the all-new series, Shock, a vocal percussionist, is the imaginative beat boxer who works in the Electric Diner, where he helps decode words.
The Electric Company is part of the ‘PBS KIDS Raising Readers’ national literacy initiative. It premiered locally in January and airs Fridays at 2 pm on WNED-TV and weekdays at 4:30 pm on ThinkBright TV (Digital 17.3/Time Warner 21).
* Admission to the festival is free for children 8 and younger and $5 for all others.
