BUFFALO, N.Y. – WNED’s Horizons Gallery will host “Strata” Feb. 9-29, featuring collaborative screen prints. The exhibition is free and open to the public weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The gallery is located in the WNED studios at 140 Lower Terrace, across from the Adam’s Mark Hotel in downtown Buffalo. Free parking is available.
An opening reception, also free and open to all, will take place Thursday, Feb. 9 from 5 to 8 p.m.
“Strata” showcases the artistic talents and creative interpretations of participants in iXpress, Aspire of Western New York’s expressive arts program for adults with disabilities.
The works were created through a recent series of screen print workshops using doodles, photographs, patterns, sketches and other graphics.
“Collaborative art projects build awareness among the public as well as the individuals we serve that arts experiences are for everyone,” says iXpress Art Facilitator Jody Selin. “ ‘Strata’ has been unique in utilizing screen-printing, which has allowed us to reproduce images several times over, in turn giving us the freedom and spontaneity to bring together a vast array of interests in the creation of these large, collaged works.”
In 2010, a New York State Decentralization grant culminated in the group’s exhibition at the Burchfield Penney Art Center on the Buffalo State College campus and, in the past year, the group’s work has been on display at Buffalo area restaurants: Merge, Quaker Bonnet and Comfort Zone Café.
Aspire of Western New York supports and serves children and adults with developmental disabilities.
