BUFFALO, N.Y. – WNED-TV will air “Hockey: More Than A Game,” Thursday, March 22 at 9:30 p.m. and the two-part program “Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth with Bill Moyers,” Saturday, March 24 and Sunday, March 25 at 4 p.m.
“Hockey: More Than A Game” explores hockey history and culture and offers an insightful, intimate look at the game described as “Canada’s gift to the world.” Viewers also learn how hockey has evolved over nearly 200 years — from open-pond outdoor games to professional play in packed National Hockey League arenas. Major funding for “Hockey: More Than A Game” was provided by New Era Cap Co., Inc. Additional funding was provided by NOCO, the Frank L. Ciminelli Family Foundation, the Consulate of Canada in Buffalo, and the Royal Bank of Canada, with additional support from members of WNED Buffalo/Toronto.
“Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth with Bill Moyers” is a vibrant collection of extraordinary stories spun by a great storyteller, teacher and lecturer. In lively, expansive dialogues, Campbell and Moyers discuss how myths are clues to the spiritual core of human nature and open vistas into the human experience across the ages. They may vary from culture to culture, but at their deepest level they reveal the innermost dreams and aspirations of men and women for self-fulfillment, social collaboration and the possibility of transcendence.
