SPECIAL THANKS TO SAL H. ALFIERO
THE MARINES documentary would not have been possible without the generous support of Sal Alfiero’s Alfiero Family Foundation. Mr. Alfiero himself served in the United States Marine Corps from 1958 to 1967. In the Marines, Mr. Alfiero was a naval aviator-land and carrier based fighter/attack pilot and reached the rank of Captain.
In 1966, he received his Masters of Business Administration from the Harvard Business School and went on to establish Mark IV Industries, Inc. in March 1969. Under his leadership as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, the Amherst-based maker of automotive industrial products grew into a Fortune 500 global enterprise valued at two billion dollars.
Shortly after selling Mark IV in September 2000, Mr. Alfiero acquired Protective Industries LLC and built it up into a leader in the product protection industry offering the most advanced resources, and the largest manufacturing capacities.
Along with being an outstanding businessman, Mr. Alfiero serves the community as a philanthropist and as an active board member for many companies. His professional affiliations include HSBC USA (Board of Directors, Chairman Audit Committee), Children’s Hospital of Buffalo (Trustee, Former Chairman), and University at Buffalo Foundation (Trustee).
The fruits of his philanthropy can be seen through the Alfiero Center of the School of Management, which was built on the University at Buffalo North Campus thanks in large part to a $2 million gift from Mr. Alfiero and his wife, Jeanne. He was also a major supporter of the new National Museum of the Marine Corps and WNED’s capital campaign for digital conversion.
WNED salutes Sal Alfiero for his distinguished service for his country and his community.
