WHAT: Event to introduce First Book- Western New York to the Western New York region, providing access to new books to children in need


WHEN: Thursday, Oct. 17 from 4 – 6:30 p.m.

WHERE: WNED studios140 Lower Terrace, Buffalo

WHO: First Book – Western New York, WNED ǀ WBFO Buffalo Toronto; community educators, businesses, parents who believe and support first Books initiative to end illiteracy in Western New York

WHY: First Book® is a nonprofit organization with a single mission: to give children from low-income families the opportunity to read and own their first new books. With more than 100 million books distributed to children in thousands of communities around the country, First Book is a leader in sharing the magic of reading with children in need.

The First Book grants will be awarded to programs that are changing the lives of children in the WNY Region.  There will be Literacy Corners of programs in the community that focuses on math, science, technology, history, theater and arts, and volunteering.  There will also be local authors, businesses and teachers in the community that support First Books initiative to end illiteracy in Western New York.
