BUFFALO, N.Y. – In the race for the New York governor’s office, Democratic incumbent Andrew Cuomo, Republican candidate Rob Astorino, Green Party candidate Howie Hawkins and Libertarian Party candidate Michael McDermott, will debate live from the WNED-TV studios in downtown Buffalo. “Election ‘14: The Race for Governor” will air on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 8 p.m. and is sponsored by The Buffalo News and WNED | WBFO.

The hour-long debate will be simulcast live on WNED-TV and WBFO-FM 88.7 and will be the only televised debate for the 2014 gubernatorial race. The debate will be offered for broadcast to public television and radio stations across the state.  Questions will be posed by three panelists, yet to be named. WBFO-FM News Director Brian Meyer will moderate.

New Yorkers from around the state will have the opportunity to submit questions to the candidates by visiting buffalonews.com/debate.

The live event is open to an invitation-only studio audience. Election ‘14: The Race for Governor” will be streamed online at WBFO.org (audio only) and buffalonews.com.

WBFO-FM 88.7 Launches Local Sports Segment

WBFO-FM 88.7 is introducing a new regular segment to its morning news lineup during the Bills season. “Beyond the Playbook” will provide insightful and lively commentary on the Buffalo Bills. WBFO morning host Jay Moran and commentator Matt Sabuda will chat twice a week about a broader team perspective, highlighting trends and developments with the Bills on and off the field.

“We know that Buffalo is a die-hard sports town and many of our regular listeners are avid Bills fans,” said WNED ǀ WBFO president and CEO Donald K. Boswell. “This new segment will allow our listeners to keep up with the Bills while enjoying the in-depth news programming that WBFO and NPR offers in the morning.”

The new segment will premiere on Monday, September 8 and will be heard each Monday and Friday mornings at 7:30 and 9:30 a.m. during “Morning Edition.”

Matt Sabuda is a life-long Bills fan and season ticket-holder who is a founding director of the Buffalo Fan Alliance. He is frequently interviewed by local radio and television stations and has contributed perspectives on football to numerous publications. He previously worked in media relations for the Buffalo Bills. The Elmwood Village resident attended New York University and has a communications degree from Canisius College.

Jay Moran is also a life-long Bills fan and season ticket-holder whose radio career in the Buffalo region spans three decades.
