Ghost Town Blues Band is a modern blues band with an intimate knowledge of both blues, rock and improvisational jams. At the same time, the band’s raw energy and intensity is reminiscent of some of the best blues that rock n' roll has ever offered. The band can turn on a dime from North Mississippi hill country grooves to classic electric urban blues and funk.  This Memphis-based, gritty, six-piece has been touring the U.S. since its inception in 2009, gaining a strong following within the blues and Jam Band circuit. Ghost Town Blues Band were 2nd place winners at the 2014 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tenn.

Ghost Town Blues Band, finalist in the 2014 International Blues Challenge, to headline

BUFFALO, N.Y. – WNED ǀ WBFO Buffalo-Toronto is pleased to announce the 2015 WBFO’s Buffalo Blues Bash on Saturday, April 25 at 7 p.m. in the WNED ǀ WBFO studios.

Headlining WBFO’s Buffalo Blues Bash is Ghost Town Blues Band, finalist in the 2014 International Blues Challenge. Ghost Town Blues Band is a modern blues band with an intimate knowledge of both blues, rock and improvisational jams. At the same time, the band’s raw energy and intensity is reminiscent of some of the best blues that rock n' roll has ever offered. Opening for the event is local favorite The Patti Parks Band. They are one of Western New York’s most versatile and experienced groups, comprised of the most talented musicians that have come along in a long time. “The last two Buffalo Blues Bash’s were a huge success,” said WNED ǀ WBFO president and CEO Donald K. Boswell. “WBFO’s commitment to bringing Western New York the very best of the blues is stronger than ever and we’re thrilled to host this event not only once but twice in 2015.”

WNED | WBFO continues its commitment to bringing top performing acts to the event, along with fostering local talent. Previous Blues Bash headliners include Billy the Kid and the Regulators and the Selwyn Birchwood Band and opening performers featured Tommy Z Band and Dive House Union.  WNED | WBFO is planning to present a fourth Buffalo Blues Bash later in the year.

Tickets are $18 for WNED ǀ WBFO members and $20 for advanced purchase. The price increases to $25 when bought at the door the night of the event, if the event isn’t sold out.  Food, beer and wine will be available for purchase. “Making a Difference” airs Monday, Feb. 2 at 9 p.m.; Seeking nominations for 2015

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Last January, WNED | WBFO Buffalo-Toronto launched an initiative to recognize everyday citizens of Western New York who are committed to making a positive impact in their communities. “Making a Difference” was created to capture the stories of true champions who dedicate their time to worthy causes, emphasize the importance of volunteerism and encourage others to step in and lend a helping hand. The response was overwhelming, as over 300 nominations were received for this recognition.

“The selection process was awe-inspiring,” said Donald K. Boswell, WNED ǀ WBFO president and CEO. “We read story after story of the remarkable work that’s being done to strengthen Western New York and are thrilled that we can tell the stories of eight very deserving honorees.” 

 “Making a Difference,” which airs Monday, Feb. 2 at 9 p.m. on WNED-TV, will highlight eight individuals in a half-hour television documentary and with radio spotlights airing throughout February on WBFO-FM 88.7.

“Making a Difference” honorees include:

  • Aaron Bartley (Co-Founder, PUSH Buffalo)
  • Sr. Janet DiPasquale (LCSW / Director, TRY – Teaching and Restoring Youth)
  • Myron Glick, M.D. (Founder and Chief Medical Officer, Jericho Road Community Health Center)
  • Ken Hansen (President, Amanda Hansen Foundation)
  • Willie “Hutch” Jones (President, Willie “Hutch” Jones Educational and Sports Programs)
  • Greg Kowal (Wish Kid and volunteer fundraiser for The Make-A-Wish Foundation)
  • John Mika (Founder, The Teacher’s Desk)
  • MarCe Zerrate (Founder, Amor and Heritage Dance Company and ColombiaWNY.org)

Billy the Kid and the Regulators, finalists in the 2014 International Blues Challenge, to headline

 

BUFFALO, N.Y. – WNED ǀ WBFO Buffalo-Toronto is pleased to announce the 2014 WBFO’s Buffalo Blues Bash on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. in the WNED ǀ WBFO studios.

Headlining WBFO’s Buffalo Blues Bash is Billy the Kid and the Regulators, a high powered, guitar driven, rhythm and blues band based in Pittsburgh. Lead singer Billy Evanochko is widely-known across the Steel City for his impassioned lyrics, seductive vocals, and stinging guitar riffs. Together with his band, The Regulators, they deliver a well-balanced dose of funky rhythm and blues, with heart and soul being the main ingredient.  Billy the Kid and the Regulators were finalists at the 2014 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tenn.

Opening for the event is local favorite the Tommy Z Band. Tommy Z is a contemporary blues guitarist/singer/songwriter/producer. Though he is a guitar-driven electric blues-based stylist onstage, in the studio Tommy composes a variety of music.

“Last year’s Buffalo Blues Bash was a huge success,” said WNED ǀ WBFO president and CEO Donald K. Boswell. “It’s a testament to how deeply rooted blues music is in our community and we’re thrilled to bring this event back again in 2014.”
