Hamilton's America Preview Event

WNED | WBFO was one of 20 stations chosen to receive a grant toward the coordination of a free event featuring a preview of the PBS ARTS documentary “Hamilton’s America.” Anthony Chase of WBFO’s “Theater Talk” acted as master of ceremonies for the October 2016 event which was attended by over 400 community members. As attendees entered the studio, they had the chance to take photos with costumed actors and pose as Alexander Hamilton on the $10 bill. Each attendee was also entered into a drawing to win “Hamilton” souvenirs, a digital download of the original Broadway soundtrack and several items donated by Shea’s, including theater tickets.

Prior to the screening, live “Hamilton” themed performances took place featuring Western New York’s own Dance Spectrum, Verve Dance Studio and Second Generation Theatre. Audience members then viewed a 40-minute preview of the new documentary on the WNED studio big screen. Attendees were asked to share their event photos on social media with the hashtag #HamildocPBS in the effort to promote the broadcast. Each person who shared the hashtag was entered into an additional raffle drawing.
