About the October 13, 2018 Performers
Joanna Connor

Joanna Connor

Joanna got her big break when a video of her playing a slide guitar solo went viral in 2014. But, she’s been around the Blues scene for much longer. Joanna is an institution in Chicago, bringing people together with her scorching sound.

Joanna has a residency at Kingston Mines in Chicago. She recorded 7 albums before signing with MC Records. She finished her fourth album with MC Records in 2016. Joanna is known for her “scorching solos”, and her music includes “tastes of gospel, rock, soul and funk; all with the gutsy singing and heartfelt playing that have always been her trademarks.”

Tas Cru and the Tortured Souls

Tas Cru’s newest album, “Memphis Song”, is among the top 25 blues albums for June and July 2018.

Based out of upstate New York, Cru performs in a variety of formats ranging from solo-acoustic to a 7 piece backing band. Honors and recognition include Cru being awarded the 2014 Blues Foundation's Keeping the Blues Alive Award (KBA) for Blues Education, named to the New York State Blues Hall of Fame - 2013 as a Master Blues Artist, and in 2009 named by Blues Festival Guide Magazine as its 2009 Blues Artist on the Rise.

Cru's distance learning program is in association with the Western New York Blues Society and their Blues in Schools program, Cleveland Hill Schools and Erie 1 BOCES, and part of the New York State Distance Learning Consortium. He has also created two Blues CDs geared towards kids.

Hanna and the Blue Hearts

A Rochester, NY band, Hanna and the Blue Hearts channel a wide variety of the blues, from pre-war styles to 50s & 60s Chicago blues, to boogie woogie. Fueled by a love of jazz, this band also really swings!

In June 2018, Hanna and Aleks, as a duo, won 1st place at Memphis Bound, a Blues competition hosted by the Blues Society of WNY. They will be representing WNY at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis next January.
