Flutist Alex Hughes and pianist Michael McNeill will present an evening of spine-tingling flute favorites just in time for Halloween. The program includes Frank Martin’s hypnotic Ballade, Charles Tomlinson Griffes’ Poem, and the downright diabolical Sonata by Lowell Liebermann.
This event is includes a post-concert Q&A and light refreshments.
This is a free event, however, you must register to attend. Parking is free in our gated lot.

Meet the Performers
Alex Hughes
ALEX HUGHES was the featured performer on the first WNED Classical Live On Stage event on April 29, 2023 and is thrilled to be back! He holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from SUNY Fredonia and a Master of Music Performance degree from Ithaca College. Alex has performed with many ensembles in the area including the Buffalo Philharmonic, Western New York Chamber Orchestra, Cheektowaga Symphony, Orchard Park Symphony, and Erie County Wind Ensemble, with whom he has been a featured soloist. He has also presented numerous solo recitals, including WNED Classical Live On Stage. Alex is also a passionate educator and currently teaches instrumental music at the Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts.
Michael McNeill
MICHAEL McNEILL is a pianist, improviser, and composer from Western New York. Since returning to Buffalo in 2023, he has been heard around the city's jazz scene with John Bacon, Tim Clarke, Griff Kazmierczak, Alex McArthur, Dave Phillips, and the Buffalo Jazz Composers Workshop. He’s also appeared frequently in chamber music settings, with Tediyra Barton-Harris, Evan Courtin, Megan Kyle, Michael Tumiel, Katie Weissman, and others. Other recent projects have included two EPs of telepathic improvisations as part of The Evolution of the Arm, sideperson appearances in drummer Scott Clark’s Dawn & Dusk, and solo electronic music. His latest album, Barcode Poetry — featuring pedal steel guitar innovator Susan Alcorn, trumpet virtuoso Dave Ballou, and exploratory percussionist Shelly Purdy — is out October 1 on Infrasonic Press.
