PBS KIDS STEAM Kits
At Buffalo Toronto Public Media, just like you, we know the best way to help young children learn is to give them a chance to learn and practice new learning topics in different ways. That is why PBS KIDS creates educational videos, games and apps, and hands-on activities to introduce kids to new skills and give them a chance to practice those skills in different ways.
The PBS KIDS and Buffalo Toronto Public Media fun and educational STEAM initiative helps families explore Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math (STEAM) skills together!
Here’s a look at some activities families can complete:
Check out the popular PBS KIDS series, NATURE CAT. NATURE CAT explores the environment, encourages kids to make connections with and ask questions about the natural world, and helps them think about their role as a caretaker for our environment.
Take a trip outside and go on a scavenger hunt, then help your child track and log what objects you found. Keep the conversation and learning going. Find more NATURE CAT activities here: pbskids.org/naturecat/
Technology and Engineering
Explore an Engineering and Technology activity built on content from the PBS KIDS series, READY JET GO!. In READY JET GO!, children are introduced to space, earth science and technology with Jet, a seasoned space traveler.
You can use the Engineering Design Process to create a robotic arm – define the problem, imagine and play, create, test and improve! Find more READY JET GO! activities here: pbskids.org/readyjetgo/
Explore Art using activities from SCRIBBLES AND INK, the PBS KIDS digital series. This digital series encourages kids to draw, paint, make art and express their creativity.
Have your child draw an underwater world including all the creatures that live there! Find more Art activities here: pbskids.org/scribblesandink
There’s fun for everyone in creating your own board game and math questions to build math and problem-solving skills. Your family can become game designers as you design and build your own board game centered around math skills.
