The Great Thanksgiving Listen

Calling all teachers! Buffalo Toronto Public Media is pleased to partner with StoryCorps and to announce The Great Thanksgiving Listen.

The Great Thanksgiving Listen is a national movement that empowers high school students to create an oral history of the contemporary United States by recording an interview with an elder using the StoryCorps App.

Interviews become part of the StoryCorps Archive at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress where they will serve as an invaluable resource for future historians.

Now in its third year, the Great Thanksgiving Listen has grown from an experimental challenge issued by our Founder Dave Isay into a vital intergenerational movement. To date, thousands of high schools from all 50 states have participated and preserved more than 100,000 interviews, providing families with a priceless piece of personal history.

Join us and help create a culture of listening that echoes across the nation.Sign up here and be the first to receive updates, the new 2018 Teacher Toolkit, tips for recording a great interview, and other recipes for success.

Not a teacher or a school? You can still participate & make history.
Download the StoryCorps App available on the Apps Store or get it on Google Play , select your questions, and take some time to listen and record a loved one this Thanksgiving.

Follow StoryCorps on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Visit thegreatlisten.org for more about the project.

Join the movement to pause, listen, and honor the voices of a generation by interviewing a loved one this week. Sit down with a grandparent or other elder, a friend, neighbor, or anyone else who means something to you, and ask them questions about their life. Who are you? How do you want to be remembered? What stories and wisdom will you share with me? And then listen.
